While on-site one of Guardian’s engineers discovered this cable terminated to the main incoming supply which was cut off and left live. Live wires are dangerous and can cause electric shocks or fires if not handled properly. If a human were to come in contact with this live wire, they should be protected by the safety measures that are often a matter of regulation. However, if those safety measures fail, or if they are absent, a nasty shock is the best-case scenario, with severe or even fatal injuries being a very real possibility.
📕 BS7671 18th Edition, 526.1 states: “Every connection between conductors or between a conductor and other equipment shall provide durable electrical continuity and adequate mechanical strength and protection”. 📕
It is the duty holder’s responsibility to ensure safety on-site against hazards like these and provide complete electrical compliance in the workplace. They have a responsibility to provide all evidence needed to show a fully compliant site at all times if HSE (The Health and Safety Executive) requests this.
