MND (Motor Neurone Disease) is a condition that affects the nerves in the brain and spinal cord, causing them to gradually stop working. This leads to muscle weakness, difficulty speaking, swallowing and breathing.
Some people face challenges with courage and determination and inspire others to do the same. One of them is Guardian engineer Callum O’Boyle’s friend, Luke Robson, who has been running a 5k every single day for the past year for Gloucestershire’s Motor Neurone Disease Association in support of his mum. On the final day, he will join 16 other runners, including Callum, to run a half marathon and finish it all off.
Luke has said the following about this experience:
“When you put things into perspective, running 5km a day for a year isn’t really that much in comparison to what my mums done for me this past 28 years.
However, that doesn’t mean the next year will be easy because it certainly won’t be, but when I do have those down days, I‘ll remind myself why I’m doing this challenge.”
This is a remarkable feat of endurance, love, and a testament to the power of friendship and support. Everyone here at Guardian wishes Luke and his mum all the best.
