This isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s about adhering to vital electrical regulations. The issue at hand relates to the critical compliance standards set forth by regulation 522.5.1 – “Where the presence of corrosive or polluting substances, including water, is likely to give rise to corrosion or deterioration, parts of the wiring system likely to be affected shall be suitably protected or manufactured from a material resistant to such substances”.
As you can see from the images, note that regulation 416.2.3 will also apply – “A barrier or enclosure shall be firmly secured in place and have sufficient stability and durability to maintain the required degree of protection and appropriate separation from live parts in the known conditions of normal service, taking account of relevant external influences”.
Despite best efforts, it’s crystal clear that extensive remedial work is an absolute necessity to ensure it remains safe and serviceable.
