Research indicates that at any given time, approximately 24% of Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) is not functioning properly, with a startling discovery that eight out of ten installations are incorrect. This discrepancy often neglects inspection and testing standards, posing risks beyond just unreliable charging. Lack of proper documentation further leaves owners vulnerable legally.
A recent inspection highlighted that all mechanical interlocks for a particular brand of EVSE did not engage when energised. This left members of the public being able to disconnect with the charging lead live.

Inspection & Testing Frequency: What is it?
It is recommended that the I&T take place every 12 months, though this may change depending on how the system is used. Our EVSE reports have been designed with BS7671 in mind. The reports are familiar format and they use the same language. Observations highlighted will be coded in the same manner as an EICR and the BS7671 regulation number added. The industry leading report is then uploaded to our interactive website, TraQ-it, so you have full visibility of your EVSE assets. It delivers accurate, up-to-date, and consolidated records, as well as a version history. The service line we offer is specifically designed for periodic inspection and testing of EVSEs using specialist equipment, which also takes into account other scenarios and situations. In EVSE reports, all results are listed according to BS7671 standards using the same language as EICRs. Our team can assist you in establishing your electric vehicle supply equipment’s ongoing inspections and testing requirements, with industry-leading testing certificates for each charge point.
Guardian Inspection & Testing covers Modes 1, 2 & 3 equipment. The EVSE will be inspected and tested in accordance with BS7671, the IET Code of Practice for the Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation 5th Edition, and In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment 5th edition. The statutory requirements of Regulations 4(1) & 4(2) of the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 & PUWER 1998 will also be completed.
