While conducting testing in a control panel for a large industrial 63 AMP Three Phase Oven, we discovered an issue with the Yellow/L2 phase supply conductor. This conductor was originally behind a clear Perspex protective casing, going into the supply side of the main rotary isolator. The casing hid most of the damage, showing only slight charring on the cable. Initially, the terminal of the isolator appeared tight, and test results did not identify any issues.
However, upon closer inspection after removing the Perspex cover, we found that the cable was not correctly terminated into the terminal. Over time, this improper termination caused heat build-up and potential arcing within the terminal, leading to thermal damage and a C1 observation.
We immediately informed the client of the situation and rectified the problem while in the panel, conducted thorough testing, and ensured everything was in satisfactory condition. The client was pleased with the outcome.
