The post Guardian FC are back with a bang! 💥 appeared first on Guardian Electrical Compliance Ltd.
]]>Building from last year’s performances, Guardian FC have opted to add some young blood to their squad with the addition of 5 new players, in the hope to bring home the trophy the lads desire so much. Preparation has already taken place behind the scenes with multiple practice games in the calendar to ensure we’re as ready as we can be to try and go all the way this year!
The Children’s Hospital Charity has been our charity of choice for many years at Guardian and one we feel proud to continue to support this year and beyond through our participation in this great event. The ultimate vision of Sheffield Children’s Hospital it to provide a healthier future for children and young people of Sheffield, and the generosity of all donations, no matter how big or small, all play a huge contribution towards their aim of achieving this goal.
Most recently, in December 2023, we took part in sponsoring a snowflake that could be seen on the Sheffield Children’s Hospital, which we are proud to say helped contribute to the biggest amount ever raised since the campaign began! These tittle acts of kindness can go a long way over a large scale of people and it’s all worth it when we see accomplishments like the 6-million-pound helipad development, as well as funding for specialist equipment and research for new medicines.
So, what’s next you ask? TCHC have already set their sights on the next target! The National Centre for Child Health Technology (NCCHT). This is a project that which will be run by Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust and The Children’s Hospital Charity have launched an appeal to raise £2m to help contribute towards the cost of the centre. This new project will help further bring to life the use of Robotics, virtual reality, and artificial intelligence. The centre will also have a virtual reality suite, a creative space to develop ways to care for people remotely as well as the opportunity to test new prototypes. Not only will this facility benefit the children and families of Sheffield, but it will also aim to bring together children of the present and future from across the world for generations to come.
Any donations towards this fantastic cause would be greatly appreciated. We have created a just giving page if you would like to do so! Guardian Electrical Compliance is fundraising for The Children’s Hospital Charity (justgiving.com)

]]>Resultantly, this hid most of the damage, only showing a slight bit of charring on the cable. Fortunately, due to the thorough work of Aaron Johnson, on closer inspection once the Perspex cover was removed, the cable itself was not terminated correctly into the terminal. As a result of this, over time this caused heat build-up and potential arcing within the terminal, which ultimately led to the thermal damage and a C1 observation to be identified.
This was immediately brought to the client’s attention and was rectified including a further test, which left them even happier with the panel.

]]>The post Technical Tuesday – Safe Systems of Work 🦺 appeared first on Guardian Electrical Compliance Ltd.
]]>One of the key aspects of a safe system of work is to identify and assess the potential hazards to others. This includes consulting with our clients, colleagues, and experts as needed. The steps should also be documented that need to be taken to work safely and communicate them clearly to everyone involved.
Another crucial element is to implement and monitor a safe system of work. This means providing adequate training, instruction, supervision, and control to staff. It also means selecting and using the right tools and equipment for the job and following any safety rules and procedures. If necessary, also display warnings and notices to alert others of the hazards.
Of course, a safe system of work is not static. It needs to be reviewed and updated regularly, especially when there are changes in the work environment, equipment, or legislation. Ways to improve our safety performance and learn from any incidents or near misses should always be looked at.
A safe system of work is not only a legal requirement, but also a moral duty. It shows care about our health and safety, as well as that of our customers, co-workers, and the public. It also helps to deliver quality work and maintain our reputation as professional electrical contractors.
What are some of the best practices you follow to create and maintain a safe system of work? Comment below…

]]>What do the HSE look for in your business?
Obvious hazards – such as exposed or unsafe wiring.
Competence – the skill and knowledge to avoid and deal with danger.
Maintenance and Records – are your records tidy and accessible?
Access protocols.
As a duty holder, you have a legal obligation to provide information, instruction, training and supervision to your employees. You also have a duty to ensure electrical safety and compliance in your workplace to avoid incidents.
If you want to learn more about how to protect yourself from the HSE and other electrical safety issues, please check out Guardian’s Duty Holder Guide – https://guardianelectrical.co.uk/dutyholder-guide/
The HSE also has a collection of case studies on its website that show the types of accidents they will investigate related to electrical maintenance on-site – https://www.hse.gov.uk/electricity/maintenance/index.htm

]]>The post Fridays Find – Hot news…Hot cable!🔥 appeared first on Guardian Electrical Compliance Ltd.
]]>On a recent inspection by our team conducting testing in a control panel for a large industrial 63 AMP Three Phase Oven, this cable was found not terminated correctly into the terminal. This therefore over time, caused heat build-up and potential arcing within the terminal, which had led to the thermal damage.
The Yellow/L2 phase supply conductor to the panel, was originally behind a clear, Perspex protective casing, going into the supply side of the main rotary isolator. This hid most of the damage, showing only a slight bit of charring on the cable. Initially, the terminal of the isolator was tight, with test results not identifying any issue, however on closer inspection once the Perspex cover was removed, the cable itself was not terminated correctly into the terminal. Highlighting the importance of on-site regular inspection from our Guardian team.
So, the Guardian team made the client aware, and the issue was rectified, tested, and checked again. It was left in satisfactory condition with a happy client.

]]>The post Technical Tuesday – Regulation 12🎓 appeared first on Guardian Electrical Compliance Ltd.
]]>One of the key aspects of the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 (EaWR) is the obligation to provide suitable means of cutting off and isolating electrical equipment in case of danger. This is an ABSOLUTE regulation, meaning that there is no excuse for not following it. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) will not tolerate any breaches of this regulation. In order to comply with this regulation, you need to have Electrical System Schematic Drawings that show how your electrical equipment is connected and labelled.
Regulation 12 of EaWR states:
“(1) Subject to paragraph (3), where necessary to prevent danger, suitable means (including, where appropriate, methods of identifying circuits) shall be available for –
(a) cutting off the supply of electrical energy to any electrical equipment.
and
(b) the isolation of any electrical equipment.”
Have a think to yourself:
Do you have a clear and comprehensive Inspection Schematic Drawing and Labelling system for your site(s)?
In an emergency, could you access your Network Drawings quickly and easily to isolate the affected equipment?
Are your Network Drawings updated and accurate, reflecting any recent changes or modifications?
Are your labels legible and visible to anyone who needs to access them?
If you answered no to any of these questions, then you need to get in touch with Guardian to see how we can help you achieve electrical compliance –
