🔍It’s that time of the week again!
🕵🏻During an on-site inspection last week, Guardian electrical inspectors, Sam Childes & Steve Coward came across this socket which was found to be without a neutral wire.
📜Upon the discovery of this, the cable was traced back to the distribution board, later revealing that the connector block had been burnt to a crisp within the trunking seen below. (EAWR 4 (1) & 6 Regs 421.1.1 _ Code 2 Observation).
⚠️Consequently, a bad neutral wire will lead to excessive heat buildup as proven in this example. However, if you notice that electrical outlets or switches feel unusually warm to the touch, it may indicate a problem with the neutral wire and therefore help to mitigate the building risk.
👃🏻It is also important to note if you detect an odd “fishy” odour coming from an outlet, your site could be in danger of an electrical fire. Most electrical wiring has plastic insulation and usually this means overheating electrical components and melting of plastic wiring insulation.
👏🏻To conclude, the socket was isolated, the client was informed of the find, leaving them with their mind at ease.
🤔Could your worksite do with a thorough inspection?
